Description

1969 CESSNA 172K, OFF RUNWAY LANDING DAMAGED LEFT WING, VERY REPAIRABLE AIRFRAME, CHEAP !! THE 172 HAS BECOME THE BEST SELLING AIRPLANE EVER BECAUSE IT IS CAPABILE OF MANY MISSIONS AND IS RUGGED, FLEXIBLE, AND RELIABLE.THE 172 IS THE NUMBER ONE OWNER-FLOWN AIRPLANE, BECAUSE IT IS EASY AND RELATIVELY EASY AND INEXPENSIVE TO MAINTAIN AND OPERATE, AND HAS ENOUGH SPEED AND PAYLOAD TO BE A REASONABLE CHOICE FOR SHORT TO MEDIUM DISTANCE CROSS COUNTRY FLIGHT.THE 172 HAS ALSO BEEN USED FOR DECADES AS A PRIMARY TRAINER, BECAUSE OF IT’S VERY FORGIVING HANDLING QUALITIES. ON A CALM DAY, EVEN THE MOST INEXPERIENCED PILOT IN A 172 CAN MAKE AN ACCEPTABLE LANDING.BUT THAT IS ON A CALM DAY. ON A WINDY OR GUSTY DAY, WITH ONLY ONE RUNWAY TO CHOOSE FROM, AND A SOGGY WET GRASS RUNWAY AT THAT, EVEN THE MOST EXPERIENCED PILOT, ONE WHO FLIES FOR A LIVING, CAN RUN INTO TROUBLE.THAT’S WHAT HAPPENED TO THIS AIRPLANE.THE PILOT OF THIS AIRPLANE ATTEMPTED A LANDING AT A PRIVATE AG AIRSTRIP, THE AIRPLANE DEPARTED THE GRASS SLIGHTLY, GOT CAUGHT ON THAT GEAR, WENT THROUGH SOME MUD, IMPACTED THE LEFT WINGTIP AND THE UPPER NOSEBOWL ON A DRAINAGE PIPE BEFORE HE GOT STOPPED.SO THAT’S WHAT THE SITUATION IS WITH THIS AIRPLANE.NOTICE THE MUDDY WHEELS. NOT DAMAGED.THE GEAR, ALL 3, INCLUDING THE NOSE GEAR, LOOK GOOD AND UNDAMAGED.THE FUSELAGE APPEARS TO BE TOTALLY UNDAMAGED!!NO FIREWALL DAMAGENO BELLY DAMAGENO DAMAGE TO THE WING CARRY-THROUGH AREA THAT WE CAN SEENO TAILCONE DAMAGENO DAMAGE TO TAIL FEATHERSTHE DOORS FIT WELLNO DAMAGE TO THE GLASS OR WINDSHIELDTHE RIGHT WING, TANK, FLAP AND AILERON ARE UNDAMAGED, BUT THE PLASTIC TIP IS CRACKEDTHE LEFT WING AT THE TIP IS DENTED IN, BUT BASICALLY ONLY ON THE SEPARATE OUTBOARD SKIN, WHICH CESSNA ENGINEERS KNEW WOULD GET THE MOST ABUSE, SO THEY MADE THE SPARS OUT THIS FAR JUST FOLDED SHEET ALUMINUM, AND THE SKINS SEPARATE, TO MAKE THE REPAIRS EASIER.THE LEFT WING ALSO HAS A BIG WRINKLE AT THE TRAILING EDGE, IN NEAR THE FUSELAGE THAT DID AFFECT THE REAR SPAR, BUT NOT THE FUSELAGE CARRY THROUGH.THE FLAP AND AILERON ON THE LEFT SIDE APPEARS TO BE UNAFFECTED.BOTH LIFT STRUTS ARE UNDAMAGEDTHE IMPACT ON THE FRONT BROKE OUT A PIECE OF THE UPPER COWLS FIBERGLASS NOSEBOWL, BUT DID NOT DAMAGE THE METAL THAT FORMS THE UPPER COWL ITSELFTHE LOWER NOSEBOWL DID NOT BREAK, BUT HAS SOME PAINT MISSING, SO IT MAY…
