Description
1958 CESSNA 172, 6800 TT, 1672 SMOH, CLASSIC PAINT/POLISHED, LIGHT DAMAGE, HAIL, CHEAP!
The 1956-1959 172 is known as the “straight-tail” version of the venerable, 4 seat 172, with a more rounded vertical fin like Cessna’s 180 has.
4 people for over 4 hours flight time at 120 mph, with good handling qualities!
There is a reason the Cessna 172 is the best selling light aircraft of all time!!
Praised for its light weight and simple systems, this early model 172 is a flying classic, with the functionality of any 172, but with a “classic airplane” look!
And the paintjob on this aircraft reinforces the “classic” look!!
Cream upper, Teal Green center stripe with polished aluminum divider and the complete polished lower fuselage, upper and lower wings and tail feathers are polished aluminum!
Very cool!!
It even has large “N’ numbers painted on the bottoms of the wings, like all airplanes did back in the day!!
This aircraft was parked at an FBO in Chicago for a day trip, and they left it on the ramp, not tied down.
Naturally, a rainstorm with higher than normal wind hit the airport that day and the airplanes tail and right wing lifted up, pushing the left wing into the tarmac.
The airplane remained balanced on the nosegear and the left main gear (the left wingtip was the 3 rd leg of the stool) until the line staff pulled down on the right lift strut and the airplane sat normally again.
We are including a picture of the airplane perched on 2 legs and the wingtip so you will understand how the airplane was not damaged any more than this!
****Luckily, the angle prevented the propeller from touching the ground, so there was no “prop strike”!
NO DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE AT ALL!!
****The angle also kept the lower cowling and exhaust up, so again no damage!
****No damage to the nosegear, firewall or engine mount!
**** No damage to either main gear leg, wheel or the fuselage at the gear saddle, this was not an overly violent manuever.
****The tail went up farther in the air during the event, so no tail damage at all!
The left wing is damaged on the outboard “breakaway” section (outboard of the spars).
This section is replaceable without fancy jigs!
No spar damage or other wrinkling to the wings!
THERE IS NO OTHER DAMAGE TO THIS AIRCRAFT AS A RESULT OF THIS “NOT IN MOTION” INCIDENT JUST THIS SUMMER!!
But, this aircraft sustained hail damage to all the top surfaces of the wings and tail feathers at some point in its past.
The hail is all small pings, so no airworthy issues, but it is widespread, so you don’t have to look hard to see it!!
interestingly, the fuselage and cowling do not show hail damage, just the appendages!
So this aircraft will never look like new unless you spend time and money on skin repair,
BUT, it is still a cool looking, “classic” 172, and you don’t need to do anything to the hail to legally fly this airplane, as the former owner has done for years!
In fact, he put 172 hours on the airplane in just the last year!
Maintained well and owner flown.
The annual inspection just expired this June, and the airplane has been annualled with no issues with the hail (light hail, even in heavy frequency, is not an un-airworthy condition, just cosmetic!)
The logbooks are included since brand new for the Engine, Airframe and Prop!
The Continental 0-300A engine was overhauled in 2012 by Jewell Aviation.
Inside, the Green vinyl/Tan cloth insert seats may be original? But the tan cloth side panels are very nice and clearly newer!
A full dash with King pushbutton audio panel, King KT-76A mode C transponder, Apollo GPS and MX-300 digital nav-com with glideslope make a very functional set!
Our photos show that in addition to the damaged caused to the left wingtip by the tip up, there is a small scraped area on the right lower tailcone caused by my recovery drivers,(will push out) as well as 2 small skin areas above the wing attach points where they raised the wings too high on removal and tore a 2”x2” piece of top skin, which will require a patch.
This might be the world’s easiest to repair project 172, and it will make a good, cute, fun airplane for you and your family, at a price lower than a good used car!!
Located at our storage hangar at the Airlake airport (KLVN), just south of Minneapolis, MN.
No storage charged for 30 days, then $10 per day if you need more time.
This sale includes logbooks since new, A.D. compliance sheets, receipts, etc.
Plus the FAA bill of sale!
And the keys!
Owning your own airplane does not need to be out of reach financially, this airplane can be fixed and ready to fly for cheap!!
Good bidding!!
