WWII Part - Jaeger Type C-11 Chronometric Tachometer Early BT-13 L-4 A-36 P-40

One exceptionally nice C-11 chronometric (fancy word for 'mechanical' here) tachometer as manufactured by Jaeger Watch Co. Inc. of New York. It's an early unit that would have been found on a variety of aircraft including the Vultee BT-13 and BT-15, the Piper L-4, Curtiss P-40 (E thru N models), the North American Aviation A-36 "Apache" and early P-51 models, the A-35 dive bomber, and the UC-61 and UC-64 aircraft. Standard 3 1/8" in panel mount here. What's special about it? Well, this is early technology for one that was replaced rather quickly by electronic tachometers. 43 prefix in the code indicates it was built under 1943 contract award.

Nice and clean. A little dust from storage. Metal case with no damage. No dust or bugs or dirt behind the glass. Nice bright yellow markings. Only "issue" I can see is that over decades of storage in a hot warehouse the paper gasket between the front face plate and the instrument glass has moved up and out. It's not damaged. You can take the instrument face apart and re-set the original gasket and she's good to go. The cable connection port on this one has not been dropped or abused and the threads are perfect. It's a delightfully heavy aircraft instrument.

Something of a harder instrument to source. By about mid-war the trend was to move away from the expensive mechanical tachs that were all cable driven by a drive shaft cable to the engine with the newer electric units. The electric units didn't "jump around" like the cable drive tachs did.

Radium faced? Probably. Haven't scanned for it and it doesn't glow on the shelf at night. As such this sale is CONUS ONLY. International purchase will be cancelled as we do not have proper export license for military hardware and if scanned and any radium detected the instrument is confiscated and destroyed by Customs. Much as we like to support restoration projects out-of-country, please be advised this instrument isn't for you.
