WWII Part - US Navy RPM Indicator Tachometer, Mark V - General Electric TBM F6F

One exceptionally nice WWII aircraft instrument as built for US Navy - one Tachometer, Mark V as manufactured by General Electric. It's an early unit that would have been found on a variety of aircraft including the Eastern TBF and Grumman TBF "Avenger" series torpedo bomber as well as Grumman F6F Hellcat and some examples of Chance Vought F4U Corsair. Standard 3 1/8" in panel mount here. What's special about it? Well, this is early technology for one that was replaced rather quickly by electronic tachometers with different housing designs. I don't see a contract date on it but suspect it's 1942 or 1943 vintage.

Face plate is marked RPM with two needles. RPM in hundreds is indicated on the outer scale, with RPM measuring in thousands is indicated upon the inner. As speed inscreases the larger pointer rotates clockwise. Passing 12 o'clock the smaller pointer indicates RPM in thousands.

This is called a "sensitive" instrument not becuase it takes criticism to heart like my wife when I tell her she probably shouldn't wear a tube top in public anymore, but in readings. The instrument provides prescise reads / resolution of engine speed versus those with a single pointer for full RPM range. This type was used in many single engine Navy applications.

Nice and clean. Metal case with no damage. No dust or bugs or dirt behind the glass. Nice bright yellow RPM marking. Nice mustard brown numbers. Powered bya a 2-pin electrical (Cannon) connector. We have those for sale as well if you need a 90 degree or straight connector to wire this to a panel. Enquire at auction close. It's a delightfully heavy aircraft instrument.

Something of a harder instrument to source. Late war units usually had a "grooved" or "slotted" rear housing. This is rounded and held together with brass rod hardware.

Radium faced? Absolutely. This RPM placarding is nice and bright. It's hot, baby. As such this sale is CONUS ONLY. International purchase will be cancelled as we do not have proper export license for military hardware and if scanned and any radium detected the instrument is confiscated and destroyed by Customs. Much as we like to support restoration projects out-of-country, please be advised this instrument isn't for you. International buyers - please - don't bid. We don't want to see this one destroyed.

Exceptionally clean and with all ink stampings and markings still intact. I suspect it was a NOS unit that was never installed on an airplane. No box - no paperwork - just the raw instrument.
