WWII Aircraft Fuel Cap Type 39B5435 Large 4" Fuel Cap Assy. B-25 BT-13 PV-2 T-6

One WWII era large fuel cap in as-removed condition from a scrapped warbird.

If memory serves the p/n on associated with this unit is 39B5435 . Pretty typical "large mouth" or 4" fuel cap that was found on a myriad of trainers, bombers and transports. This was a standard format cap that so many of the manufacturers adopted behind their designs. Lockheed, Consolidated-Vultee, Douglas, North American Aviation and so on and so forth. With few exceptions some of the aircraft makers used their own cap designs (Boeing's B-17 "Flying Fortress" is a great example of a specific purpose built cap, and same with Consolidated on the B-24 "Liberator") but most chose this.

So we have here one wartime fuel cap in good condition without the keeper chain that was attached to inside of the fuel well cavity. Clearly the warbird that it was attached to fell off of the end of the cap's keeper chain and I don't know what it was fitted to. We had this in a bin of replacement caps for our Lockheed PV-2 projects. You can attach the wartime pedigree on this one to support your own narrative.

Complete. Good condition. Great galvanized finish. Not bent or rusted. Gasket still intact with minor cracking tho probably stiffer than the condom in grandpappy's wallet. A section of keeper chain and safety pin attached to this one. You could put this one on an airplane this afternoon after oiling up the twist latch. That's a little dry and in need of some lubing - just like paw-paw's condom.
